The Daily Brief - Friday, February 11, 2011

And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. (Revelation 19:16)

The Daily Brief

1. Mubarak Fails to Quell Protests; Raises Fear Egypt will "Explode" - Fox News

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak announces he is passing authority to VP but will remain in office until September elections, as protesters continue to chant 'Leave! Leave! Leave!'

__Lord, we ask that You keep Your hand on the people of Egypt, and do not allow the enemy to destroy that nation. We ask You to protect the people and bring true democratic leadership, drawing all Egyptians to Your heart. Praying that Mubarak and the Egyptian military will turn to the One and True God and ask for help. Praying that God will be glorified in this event spurred on by the supporters of Sharia law to take over the world.

- "And He made from one [common origin, one source, one blood] all nations of men to settle on the face of the earth, having definitely determined [their] allotted periods of time and the fixed boundaries of their habitation - their settlements, lands and abodes; so that they should seek God, in the hope that they might feel after Him and find Him, although He is not far from each one of us." (Acts 17: 26, 27 Amplified)

2. A) Top Spy Warns of Cyber Attacks, Threat From Iran - Fox News

Intel chief James Clapper paints a dire picture about the threats posed by Iran, cybercrime and other forces

B) Report: Hackers in China hit Western oil companies - AP

Hackers operating from China stole sensitive information from Western oil companies, a U.S. security firm reported Thursday, adding to complaints about pervasive Internet crime traced to the country.

__ Again, Lord, we pray that You will destroy all plans of those who rise up against Your people as You have promised in the Word. We ask for a hedge of protection around the nations who are targets of these cyber attacks.

- "The great day of the Lord is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of the Lord: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly." (Zephaniah 1:14)

3. High Hopes for a New Way to Drill Baby, Drill - Fox News

Investments pour in for new drilling technique that may open up fields of previously out-of-reach oil in U.S.

__Father, we pray that this new technology will go forward and bring America out from under the grip of foreign oil. We pray that it will provide energy without destruction, freeing us from the noise of those who demand that we not use our natural resources.

- "The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and He addeth no sorrow with it." (Proverbs 10:22)

4. Capitol Hill Abortion Rhetoric Heats Up - Fox News

As three different pro-life, GOP-sponsored measures wind through the House, pro-choice Democrats are firing back, calling the bills "extremely dangerous."

The No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, sponsored by Rep. Chris Smith (R-N.J.), would take away tax benefits for employers who provide health care if the plans offer abortion coverage. The Protect Life Act, introduced by Rep. Joe Pitts (R-Pa.), is aimed at those who would get insurance through state exchanges. It would block those consumers from purchasing abortion coverage.

__Lord we pray for the passage of these bills that would protect human life. We pray that truth would reign against those who use lies and fear mongering in an attempt to sway people to their side.

- "A false witness shall perish. . ." (Proverbs 21:28a)

5. GOP Serves Round 1 of Budget Cuts - Fox News

House Republicans have proposed cutting or eliminating dozens of government programs as part of a plan they say will save up to $74 billion, kicking off what is sure to be a vigorous debate on Capitol Hill over what to keep and what to slash. Offering a first glimpse of the specifics Republicans have in mind to rein in spending, House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers, R-Ky., on Tuesday released a partial list of 70 spending cuts included as part of the GOP's budget proposal for funding the government through the end of the fiscal year.

___Father we ask You to save the economy of the United States, and grant wisdom to our lawmakers. We pray for restraint in spending, wise use of the finances, and creative ways to implement budget cuts that will work positively toward the future of America.

- "There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up." (Proverbs 21:20)

The Middle East in Focus

This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace. (Numbers 6: 24-26)

1. Nation-wide drill simulates terrorism, public disturbances - Jerusalem Post

The Israel Police has launched a nation-wide security drill simulating terrorist attacks and large-scale public disturbances.

2. NATO offers troops if Israel, Palestinians make peace - Jerusalem Post

While the Israeli-Palestinian conflict may no longer be seen as the "only problem in the region," it is still - even with the turmoil roiling the area - "a major impediment in addressing other issues that threaten regional stability," the head of NATO said Wednesday.

3. Greece promises Israel closer ties with EU - Forbes

Greece's prime minister on Thursday promised to help Israel forge closer ties with the European Union, as part of a drive to promote investment in the crisis-hit country.

Obama Implicated in the Brotherhood

Obama Implicated in the Brotherhood, U.N. Resolution

"Be under no illusion," writes Tony Blankley in Sharia and democracy are incompatible, "If the Egyptian government in the future is shaped by the obvious Egyptian majority opinion - whether the path is slow and peaceful or fast and violent, led or not led by the Muslim Brotherhood - the result will not be Western-oriented democracy." It's a conclusion that policy makers seem unable to acknowledge in their cloud of "dreamy nonsense," according to Blankley. In a second Washington Times article, writer Frank J. Gaffney Jr. takes his observations of dreamy nonsense one step further, noting that Obama's record shows he must be seen as a "friend of Shariah" and certainly not a foe to the Muslim Brotherhood. - Pray for U.S. citizens and lawmakers to be shrewd to guard against, and to take action in preventing, unwise ties and endorsements. Intercede that our leaders and our nation as a whole would have both the discernment and the backbone to speak boldly against international events and decisions that will undermine freedom here and abroad. Ask for wisdom as the blinders fall off, that we will be a people with courage, renewed influence and action.

- "Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong." (1 Corinthians 16:13)
