The Daily Brief - Thursday, November 4, 2010

"The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever. " (Rev. 11:15)

The Daily Brief

1. Boehner Claims Mandate to Nix Health Care Bill - CBS

House Republican Leader John Boehner is claiming a voter mandate to roll back the Obama administration's health care overhaul, calling it a "monstrosity."

The presumptive next speaker of the House of Representatives told reporters Wednesday morning the Republican takeover of the House and its success in narrowing the Democratic Senate majority was proof that "the Obama-Pelosi agenda" was rejected by the American people.

___Lord we ask for caution and wisdom for the new leadership in the House. May they not become arrogant with this election, but turn their hearts to You for guidance and truth.

- "All the words of my mouth are with righteousness, nothing crooked or perverse is in them. They are all plain to him who understands and right to those who find knowledge." (Proverbs 8:8)

2. No QE2 Hangover: Dow Soars 200 as Dollar Dives - Fox Business

Wall Street enjoyed a Fed-induced buying binge Thursday as the central bank's bold stimulus plan fueled more selling in the dollar and sharply higher commodity prices . . .

Wall Street hit session highs after the White House said it is open to extending the Bush tax cuts for all income levels, a potentially bullish development for the markets that have been worried about a tax hike derailing the recovery. A compromise could remove a cloud of uncertainty in the business community on the Bush tax cuts, which are set to expire at the end of the year.

--Father we praise You that the President is considering extension of the tax cuts. We ask that this not be a ploy, but a true action.

- "Behold You desire truth in the inward parts, and in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom." (Psalm 51:6)

3. Pimco's Gross: Dollar May Drop 20 Percent on Fed Easing - Reuters

The dollar is in danger of losing 20 percent of its value over the next few years if the Federal Reserve continues unconventional monetary easing, Bill Gross, the manager of the world's largest mutual fund, said. "I think a 20 percent decline in the dollar is possible," Gross said on Monday, adding the pace of the currency's decline was also an important consideration for investors.

"When a central bank prints trillions of dollars of checks, which is not necessarily what (a second round of quantitative easing) will do in terms of the amount, but if it gets into that territory - that is a debasement of the dollar in terms of the supply of dollars on a global basis," Gross told Reuters in an interview at his Pimco headquarters.

The Fed will probably begin a new round of monetary easing this week by announcing a plan to buy at least $500 billion of long-term securities, what investors and traders refer to as QE II, according to a Reuters poll of primary dealers.

"QEII not only produces more dollars but it also lowers the yield that investors earn on them and makes foreigners, which is the key link to the currencies, it makes foreigners less willing to hold dollars in current form or at current prices," Gross added.

__Lord we are concerned about this latest move by the Fed. In the midst of joyous celebrations from the elections, the possibility of a very weak dollar now looms in our future. The potential of financial disaster is upon us. We pray for Your intervention to prevent total economic collapse.

- "Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will remember the name f the Lord our God." (Psalm 20:7)

4. FBI Ties Fifth Case to Series of Shootings Targeting Military Buildings in Virginia - Fox News

Federal authorities have tied a fifth shooting to a series of shootings targeting military sites, this time a Coast Guard recruiting station, but no suspects have been identified.

The latest shooting was reported Tuesday morning at a recruiting station in a suburban Washington strip mall. No one has been injured in any of the shootings.

__Lord we thank You that so far no one has been killed or injured in these incidents. Lord You know the hearts of all men and ask that the perpetrator will be caught swiftly.

- "Therefore those who pursue you shall be swift!" (Isaiah 30:16c)

5. Arizona Man Arrested After Guns Found in Truck at National Mall - AP

U.S. Park Police say an Arizona man has been arrested after guns and ammunition were found inside a truck hauling a camper parked along the National Mall.

__Father, thank You for finding this truck with weapons, and stopping whatever plans might have been forged with them. If this is an innocent situation, we pray for mercy. If this is a plot against anyone in our government or the people of DC, we pray for revelation and justice.

- "Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; mercy and truth go before Your face." (Psalm 89:14)

6. Iowans dismiss three justices - Des Moines Register

Three Iowa Supreme Court justices lost their seats Tuesday in a historic upset fueled by their 2009 decision that allowed same-sex couples to marry.

__Lord, we ask that more and more justices who make decisions against Your Word be dismissed from their posts. While we have no control over the US Supreme court, we pray that this election will drive home the fact that Americans want the freedoms guaranteed in the US Constitution, and the Christian values espoused by our Forefathers.

- "Do not remove the ancient landmark. . ." (Proverbs 23:10)

7. Is Al Qaeda Threat To Christians Serious? - Fox News

Just days after a brutal attack in a Catholic Church in Baghdad that killed more than 50 people, an Al Qaeda group in Iraq has declared all Christians "legitimate targets," calling for them to be killed.

__Lord we pray for the protection of our brothers and sisters in Iraq. May Your Presence been seen and felt by all who worship You as Lord, and may Your mighty power go before them and behind them to make their enemies afraid.

- " Fear and dread will fall on them; by the greatness of Your arm they will be as still as a stone, till Your people pass over, O Lord . . ." (Exodus 15:16a)

8. Scientists unveil moving 3D holograms - Financial Times

More than 30 years after the famous Star Wars movie scene in which a hologram of Princess Leia appealed for help from Obi-Wan Kenobi, US researchers have unveiled holographic technology to transmit and view moving three-dimensional images.

Food for thought:
- "He was granted power to give breath to the image of the best, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed." (Revelation 13:15)

The Middle East in Focus

This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE:

"Let Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand, upon the son of man whom you have made strong for Yourself." (Psalms 80:17)

1. Clinton: U.S. working non-stop to advance Mideast peace process - Ha'aretz

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton confirmed on Thursday her plans to meet Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu when he visits the United States next week, adding that she believed the Middle East peace process could progress despite recent obstacles.

2. Israel clashes with UNESCO in row over holy sites - Ha'aretz

Israel on Wednesday said it would reduce cooperation with the United Nations' cultural watchdog after the body classified Rachel's Tomb in the West Bank as a mosque.

3. Israel and Hezbollah Lay Claim to Gas Field - IFA

Israel began drilling the Leviathan natural gas and oil field in October, the deepest well ever drilled off the nation's coast. The exploratory project is expected to last until March and, if successful, will significantly boost Israel's energy independence, providing domestic insurance and the option to export gas. With limited data about the conditions that exist at target depths, the project has a 50% geological chance of success.

- Pray for God to bless the fruit of Israel's labor and provide His hand of protection over this endeavor. Pray that natural resources would be put to good use, and for stewardship to be rewarded. Intercede that God would shield the nations from greed and aggression, both within and without, and that the environment would be preserved. Pray that any resulting prosperity would promote nation-building and protect life.

- "The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters." (Psalm 24:1-2)

The Daily Jot

First Act of Election Trust: Congress should stop $2 Billion presidential family junket

As part of the checks and balances of the Constitution, Congress should morally and justly demand scrutiny of every expense of a 10 day trip to South Korea and India the man who occupies the Oval Office is taking with his wife and children that is projected to cost taxpayers some $2 billion. Yes, you heard it right--$2 BILLION for 10 days. At a time when there are millions who cannot find a job because of this president's policies, when food prices are soaring, when home ownership is at the lowest level in over a decade, the man, who says Americans who disagree with him are enemies and if he were king things would be different, will spend $2 billion on a trip with his wife and kids.

This is the very arrogance of socialism that has ran this country aground economically and is putting middle class America on the endangered species list. It is obvious that no lesson has been learned from the anger Americans expressed at the ballot box over the condition of this nation. In his post election news conference, the president said of the American people, "They want to know that their tax dollars are being spent wisely, not wasted, and that we're not going to leave our children a legacy of debt." Yet his administration is responsible for running up the national debt to historic levels of over $44,000 for every man, woman and child in America. And he has the audacity to take a $2 billion trip with his family.

He is blaming the election backlash against socialism on an emergency situation, rather than a progressive, or socialist agenda. He said, "I think people started looking at all this and it felt as if government was getting much more intrusive into people's lives than they were accustomed to. Now, the reason was it was an emergency situation." As his former Chief of Staff said in the past, the administration "should never let a serious crisis go to waste" while advancing its progressive agenda. The emergency was that socialists perceived a very short window to advance their progressive agenda before the American people woke up and voted them out of office.

Now, the trillions in dollars of spending implemented by this administration to vanish the middle class has crippled our nation for generations to come. Congress must reverse every aspect of this administration's socialist policies. Yet the president is urging his enemies, or rather as he admitted on the election's eve, his opponents to "move forward together." Americans do not want their leaders to move forward together with this socialist agenda. They want it repealed and buried in the annals of failed coups. The 10th Commandment found in Exodus 20:17, "Thou shalt not covet" should be America's battle cry. The government must not covet our enterprise. And it starts with ending the presidential family's $2 billion junket.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

Nov. 2010 Election Results Reflect Voter Frustration

As election maps lit up in patchwork hues of red and blue across the country, reflecting the results of November's election, faces also lit with hope on Tuesday night. Republicans took the House in a massive sweep of seats, accumulating victory after victory as pollsters' predictions rang true.
World Magazine reports:

Around midnight the presumptive speaker of the House John Boehner addressed the raucous Washington crowd chanting, "Speaker! Speaker!"

"Frankly this is not a time to celebrate," Boehner said, ticking off the nation's problems with unemployment and debt. "This is a time to roll up our sleeves."

- Praise God for the initiative of voters across the nation who seized their chance to make their voices heard at the ballot box this November! Pray for the continued unfolding of God's sovereign, redemptive plan for our nation, and for voters and elected leaders to embrace God-given roles with a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

- "Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people." (Proverbs 14:34)

Lame Duck Session Draws Watchful Eye

As mid-term election results confirm predictions of major GOP gains this fall, Republican Study Committee (RSC) Chairman Rep. Tom Price (Ga.) is fidgeting at the thought that the new Congress is still two months away. He says lawmakers who have just been voted out of office could see this two-month window - set to begin on November 15 - as a time to complete action on lingering bills. Both Republicans and Democrats have moved big-ticket legislation in "lame-duck sessions" during the last decade, so if the past is any key to the future Price may be right.

- Pray for mutual respect and integrity among both parties, that controversial measures would be addressed with fairness, patience and thoughtful debate, achieving the Lord's ultimate plan and purpose. Pray that this interim between November and January would pave the way for decisions that reflect the heart of God.

- "The way of the guilty is devious, but the conduct of the innocent is upright." (Prov. 21:5)

Pro-Lifers and the Election

Pro-Life Advocates Capture House of Representatives, Topple Pro-Abortion Pelosi

Abortion advocates will no longer control the House of Representatives as pro-life candidates won nationwide and Republican gained far more than the 40 seats needed to win.

Republicans won 20 additional races above and beyond the amount needed to become the majority party in the chamber and wrest control from pro-abortion Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

They will take over the House of Representatives in January with their largest majority since the 1940s. When they ran the House from 1995 to 2007, GOP lawmakers never had more than 231 seats and, after Tuesday, they will have at least 240 seats - most of them pro-life.

The last time they held as many seats was the 80th Congress of 1947 to 1949, when they controlled 246 seats.

In leadership elections expected down the road, most political observers believe pro-life Republican Leader John Boehner will become the next Speaker of the House and pro-life lawmakers will also likely win other top leadership positions to be able to set the agenda on abortion and bioethics issues.

"I've spent my whole life chasing the American Dream," a joyfully tearful Boehner told supporters Tuesday night. "When I saw how out-of-touch Washington had become with the core values of this great nation, I put my name forward and ran for office." (LifeNews.com)

Amazing Catch! Toddler Falls 7-floors, is Saved by Passerby

On Monday, a local Parisian doctor and his son learned the value of looking up and taking notice of their surroundings, when their keen eyes and quick action ended up saving a toddler from possible death.

Doctor Philippe Bensignor's son spotted the 18-month-old child as he slipped through the rails of an outdoor terrace, 7 floors up.

"My son saw a little boy on a balcony. He had gone right outside the railing. I said to myself 'I mustn't miss him,'" Bensignor told the AFP. "I had time to move from side to side to get in the right position."

As the toddler fell, he bounced off a café awning and into the arms of the waiting doctor.

The café barman noted that at the time, the café was closed, but that the mechanical device used to close the awning wasn't working.

"It's a real miracle," he said.

Doctor Bensignor added, "The little boy was fine. He cried a little bit but calmed down straightaway."

The child had been left with his sister in the apartment alone; his parents were later taken into custody. (Source: AFP; reported by Breaking Christian News)
