The Daily Brief - Thursday, May 20, 2010

"And [Peter] . . . warned . . . them, saying, 'Be saved from this crooked (perverse, wicked, unjust) generation.'" (Acts 2:40 AMP)

1. NKorea says SKorea faked evidence of torpedo attack, warns of 'all-out war' if it is punished - AP

North Korea said Thursday that South Korea fabricated evidence implicating the North in a torpedo attack in order to pick on the North and any attempt at retaliating for the warship's sinking would be answered with "all-out war."

--- Father, just as a spoiled child should not be allowed to do evil things and get away with it, we pray that N Korea will have consequences for their actions. We bind the threats and intimidation from their leadership, and ask that You begin a move of Your Holy Spirit to unravel the power of this Communist regime.

- "Deal courageously, and the Lord shall be with the good." (2 Chronicles 19:11c)

2. Calderon Criticism of Arizona Law Overlooks Mexico's Tough Immigration Policy - Fox News

Mexican President Felipe Calderon has been ripping into Arizona's immigration law as he tours Washington -- while appearing to disregard the way his own country cracks down on immigrants along Mexico's southern border.

Mexico repeatedly has been cited by human rights groups for abusing or turning a blind eye to the abuse of migrants from Central America. Until recently, Mexican law made illegal immigration a criminal offense -- anyone arrested for the violation could be fined, imprisoned for up to two years and deported. Mexican lawmakers changed that in 2008 to make illegal immigration a civil violation like it is in the United States, but their law still reads an awful lot like Arizona's.

- Lord, we pray that You bring about good things from this upheaval over immigration. We ask that no matter what it looks like to us, for the sake of Your beloved, You will use it to bring about safety and peace at our borders.

- "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose." (Romans 8:28)

3. TX Textbook: Before We Tackle History, Math - Fox News

Before we tackle history - a little math.

The Texas Board of Education has 5 Democrats, and 10 Republicans, 7 of whom vote as a conservative block.

What does that mean? They control what happens here.

While liberals yesterday packed the hearing room, held news conferences, and shouted 'don't indoctrinate, just educate' and 'get your hands off our textbooks, leave it to the experts', sources here say 10 years ago, when Democrats enjoyed an identical majority, they too manipulated the curriculum to fit their agenda.

The debate began when a review group of teachers recommended replacing Christmas with a Hindu holiday and removing partially or entirely Alexander Graham Bell, Albert Einstein, religious references, and Christopher Columbus.

- Lord, we are seeing texts and influences teaching students rebellion against the Lord, and destruction of the truth about our history. We pray that You restore wisdom and truth to our classrooms. We ask that You intervene in this textbook vote in Texas, and not allow the liberal agenda to prevail!

- "Then you shall call upon Me, and you shall go and pray unto Me, and I will hearken unto you." (Jeremiah 29:12)

4. Senate Republicans Delay Final Action on Wall Street Regulation Bill - AP

Senate Republicans on Wednesday delayed final action on a sweeping financial regulation bill, raising a last-minute obstacle to the legislation as it approached the home stretch.

Democrats appeared within reach of the 60-vote threshold needed to move the bill toward passage, however, and Senate Majority leader Harry Reid said he would seek a new vote Thursday.

The vote and Wednesday's maneuvering over a handful of remaining amendments represented the final lumps and bruises of a bill that appeared headed for approval.

- Lord, as partisan politics again rear their ugly heads in Congress, we pray that all harmful parts of this bill be stopped in its tracks. We pray that You will convict the hearts of our leadership of both parties to stop shoving legislation through that ultimately proves harmful to the very core of American freedoms.

- "And when He is come, He will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment." (John 16:8)

5. Jindal: 'The Day We've Been Fearing Is Upon Us' - AP

A chocolate-brown blanket of oil about as thick as latex paint has invaded reedy freshwater wetlands at Louisiana's southeastern tip for the first time, prompting Gov. Bobby Jindal to step up calls Wednesday for building emergency sand barriers.

b) Hurricane season may make spill worse - USA Today

As hurricane season looms, forecasters, scientists and residents along the Gulf Coast worry that a major storm could make the oil spill worse

c) U.S., Cuba hold talks on oil spill - Washington Times

U.S and Cuban officials are holding "working level" talks on how to respond to the massive Deepwater Horizon oil spill that is believed to be dumping some 5,000 barrels of crude a day into the Gulf of Mexico, a State Department official said Wednesday.

- Lord, as the words of Governor Jindal paraphrase the cries of Job in his suffering, we join with him to plead for Your mercy over our Gulf Coast shoreline. Father, as greed and bad leadership decisions cause the entire nation to suffer, we stand in the gap and ask for Your help. The innocent creatures, the livelihoods of those who are subject to the actions of our government, those who love You and are affected by these situations, we pray for You to remember them and save them!

- "My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved; He that keepeth thee will not slumber." (Psalm 121: 2-3)

6. Stocks Fall as Strains Accumulate - Wall Street Journal

Stocks tumbled as investors' fears over euro-zone debt grew, pushing key market measures below their 200-day moving averages and on pace for technical corrections.

The broad retreat came on mounting worries over Europe's will to address its debt woes as unions went on strike in Greece and investors fretted that trading regulations like those introduced this week in Germany could be adopted in other countries.

In the U.S., stocks linked to commodities and smaller companies bore the brunt of the selling.

"Fear is elevating at this point," said Adam Sarhan, chief executive of Sarhan Capital. "A lot of people are concerned, if the European Union stepped up and gave $1 trillion, and it wasn't enough, how much is?"

b) Euro is facing 'existential crisis,' Merkel says - EU Observer

German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Wednesday (19 May) called for tougher sanctions on deficit laggards and clear procedures for state insolvency if bail-outs do not work, as she defended her country's contribution to the 750 billion Euros rescue package in what she called an "existential test" for the euro.

- Lord, as the law of physics tells us that something too heavy will collapse, we plead for your help in the midst of what appears to be an economic disaster waiting to happen. Debt is like heavy slabs of concrete sitting on the small sticks to hold it up -- it cannot stand. We ask for Your intervention, for Your wisdom, for a change of direction for America and the world toward fiscal responsibility and life.

- "Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. Turn not to the right hand nor to the left; remove thy foot from evil." ( Proverbs 4:26,27)

The Prophetic Curse of the Money Changers

With all the allegedly smart people running the economies of many countries, why do you suppose there is a worldwide financial crisis? There is likely only one nation that doesn't seem to be in some sort of financial problem among the more sophisticated economies of the world--China. China, however, uses slave labor, and unfortunately, the United States is its biggest trading partner--buying products provided by an immoral and unjust government. But right down the line--Germany, Great Britain, France, Italy, Greece, Denmark, and so on are all having economic crisis. And the United States is chief among them. It is the result of highly motivated socialists making their move toward the one world order.

The financial collapse of the nations must occur for there to be a one world order. And those bringing about these financial ruins are doing it on purpose by using someone else's money to line their own pockets, the pockets of their friends, and the pockets of their supporters. And that someone else's money is yours and mine, and any other law abiding citizen living in any of these nations. The plan is to create two classes of people--a vast majority of the world population that is poor, and a handful of wealthy people. Both classes will be controlled by the politicians who have become so powerful that the rich will do as they say to keep from losing everything, and the poor will submit because they have no resources to fight.

Jeremiah 15:10 says, "I have neither lent on usury, nor men have lent to me on usury; yet every one of them doth curse me." Americans have been cursed by their leaders who are leveraging their power and citizen's money to destroy America for their own benefit. America's Founding Fathers rejected outright democracy because, as 18th century historian Alexander Tytler put it, "A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury." The checks and balances written into America's Constitutional Republic have been usurped because citizens have shirked their responsibility to hold leaders accountable.

Thomas Jefferson said, "I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs." It is high time America's Christians rise up and take back this country before these ungodly usurpers fold it into the one world order of the antichrist.

The Left Has No Shame

As the leader of House Democrats, Nancy Pelosi frequently speaks out in support of a leftwing agenda that includes abortion-on-demand and same-sex marriage. Whenever a pastor or rabbi objects to abortion-on-demand or men "marrying" other men, liberal politicians like Nancy Pelosi lecture them on the "separation of church and state." But Nancy Pelosi recently found an issue on which she demanded church leaders speak out - "amnesty" for millions of illegal immigrants.

Recently, Pelosi addressed a conference at Trinity Washington University. On the subject of amnesty, Pelosi said the following: "The cardinals, the archbishops, the bishops that come to me say, 'We want you to pass immigration reform,' and I said, 'I want you to speak about it from the pulpit.' Some (who) oppose immigration reform are sitting in those pews, and you have to tell them that this is a manifestation of our living the Gospels."

Ms. Pelosi must be reading the Democrat Party platform because she surely is not reading the Gospels. There is nothing Christian about rewarding lawlessness while penalizing millions of people waiting to enter our country legally. It is not biblical to use the power of government to take the hard-earned money of millions of American families and redistribute it by force of law to others.

I suspect that many men and women of faith would strongly object to Nancy Pelosi's view that tolerating criminal behavior - ILLEGAL immigration - is a "manifestation of our living the Gospels." But Pelosi's statement is also evidence of the Left's hypocrisy. It has no problem mixing religion and politics, as long as it promotes its leftwing political agenda. But if conservative pastors, priests or rabbis dare to speak up, "tolerant" liberals like Pelosi accuse them of intruding into areas that religion should not enter. Iran Sanctions Deal in Place

Major Powers Have Deal on Sanctions for Iran

The Obama administration announced an agreement on Tuesday with other major powers, including Russia and China, to impose a fourth set of sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program, setting the stage for an intense tug of war with Tehran as it tries to avoid passage of the penalties by the full United Nations Security Council. The announcement came just a day after Iranian leaders announced their own tentative deal, with Turkey and Brazil, to turn over about half of Iran's stockpile of nuclear fuel for a year, part of a frantic effort to blunt the American-led campaign for harsher sanctions. Al Qaeda Issues New Warning

Al Qaeda in Yemen issues new warning

In a new audio recording, the leader of the Yemen branch of Al Qaeda has warned Americans they will be harmed by the Obama administration's alleged decision to authorize the assassination of an American-born Islamic cleric linked to the Ft. Hood shooting and attempted Christmas Day airplane terrorism plots. In the ten minute audio recording, Nasir Abu Basir Al-Wuhayshi, the emir of the Yemen-based Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, pledges that Islamic fighers in Yemen will do everything they can to protect the American-born cleric, Anwar Al-Awlaki.

"The American administration issued a decision to the effect that the heroic, truth-telling preacher Anwar Al-Awlaki, may Allah preserve him, is wanted dead or alive," Al-Wuhayshi says in the audio recording, a transcript of which was made available by the Washington-based Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) project. "Obama, through these kinds of decisions, is leading you [the American people] to what will harm you and humble you, and will not benefit your security, which your people has already lost," Al-Wuhayshi says. Taliban planning attacks in Washington

Shortly after the arrest of Faisal Shahzad aboard an Emirates Airline flight to Dubai on May 3, authorities learned that the Times Square bombing was not his only plot. "There is a strong belief in the U.S counter-terrorism community that we will see additional attacks unfold in primarily New York City and Washington, D.C., in the next five- to six-month time frame," says Fred Burton, vice president of intelligence at Stratfor Global Intelligence. U.S. law enforcement officials would not comment on the investigation or intelligence that suggests as many as a half dozen plots may have been in the works. WNYW-TV in New York reported that Shahzad told interrogators he wanted to attack Rockefeller Plaza, Grand Central Terminal, the World Financial Center and the Connecticut headquarters of defense contractor Sikorsky -- if the Times Square attack worked. As for D.C., Burton says there have been no specific targets identified. (WTOP - DC) Read more.

Pro-Life Bills Advance in Three States

In legislatures across the nation, pro-life measures are on the move. Ultrasound legislation has been introduced in at least 14 states this session.

West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin (D) signed the Ultrasound Option Bill into law Monday, making his state the 20th to enact provisions giving women the opportunity to view an ultrasound before an abortion. "Women deserve to have all of the facts at their disposal before making the life-and-death decision that will affect themselves and their unborn children," said Mary Spaulding Balch, National Right to Life director of state legislation.

In Missouri, the state House passed expanded pro-life legislation on its last day in session. The bill, which would provide women with detailed information and an ultrasound before an abortion, now goes to Gov. Jay Nixon (D). The bill also bans abortion coverage from the state's forthcoming health insurance exchange.

And in Ohio, lawmakers in both the House and Senate introduced legislation Monday that would keep abortion coverage out of health insurance exchanges.
