"God our Savior . . . wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth." (I Timothy 2:3a,4)

The Daily Brief

1. Barack Hussein Obama Sworn In As 44th President - Worthy News

Barack Hussein Obama became the country's first ever African-American President Tuesday, January 20 at an inauguration in the nation's capitol, attended by as many as two million people. Soon after, Obama, 47 ... stressed the need for a "new era of responsibility" in his eighteen minute inauguration address, saying the country was in crisis and that action was urgently needed.

* Father, may America become truly colorless, and delivered of any spirit of racism that clouds its vision. We pray for honesty and integrity for him, and that all controversies surrounding him be cleared up. May God bless America with godly leaders, preserve the Constitution and our nation.

"And to man He said, 'Behold the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to depart from evil is understanding." Job 28:27b NKJV

2. Obama White House Calls For Repealing Defense of Marriage Act - CNS News

President Barack H. Obama is poised to be the most pro-homosexual chief executive in history. Unveiling his agenda Tuesday on the newly refurbished version of the White House website, Obama called for the repeal of the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), as well as the extension of more than 1,000 federal marriage benefits and of adoption rights to homosexual couples.

* May God reveal Himself to those, and have mercy on those who promote agendas contrary to His Word.

"If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination." (Leviticus 20:13a NKJV)

3. Obama Seeks to Halt Legal Proceedings at Guantanamo - Washington Post

In one of his first actions, the Obama administration instructed military prosecutors late Tuesday to seek a 120 day suspension of legal proceedings involving detainees at the naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba - a clear break with the approach of the outgoing Bush administration.

* Father, we pray that You would protect our nation in spite of this action, and not allow proven enemy combatants to be released. We ask Your Holy Spirit to intercede for America and our leadership to bring truth, wisdom and Divine intervention.

"Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered." (Romans 8:26 NKJV)

4. Troops in Afghanistan, Iraq Await Obama's Move - USA Today

As the image of President Obama rising to take the oath of office flashed across their TV screen, the soldiers of Bravo Company of the 46th Engineer Combat Battalion stood at attention, a nod of respect to the new boss from thousands of miles away.

* Lord, as Commander of the Heavenly Host, we ask that You will intervene to preserve the good that has been done in Afghanistan and Iraq. We ask that the troops be strengthened, and terrorists be defeated. May they find true salvation, peace, and their regions be transformed to godly democracies.

"The Lord their God will save them in that day, as the flock of His people. For they shall be like the jewels of a crown, lifted like a banner over His land." (Zechariah 9:16 NKJV)

5. George W. Bush 'Should Be Prosecuted For Torture' - London Telegraph

Manfred Nowak, the UN's special rapporteur on torture, called on the US authorities to pursue the former president and his former defense secretary, Donald Runsfeld, for the treatment of prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay camp in Cuba. "Judicially speaking, the United States has a clear obligation," he told German television. He said that the US had ratified the UN convention on torture which requires "all means, particularly penal law" to be used to bring proceedings against those violating it.

* Father, we humbly pray that every ill thought and action formed against former President Bush be rendered null and void. You have blessed us with 7 years of peace since 9-11-01, so we pray that all political maneuverings by self-serving groups or individuals be stopped. We pray that Mr Bush will receive Your wisdom and protection in this battle.

"Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand." (Isaiah 41:10)
