John McCain will introduce Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his vice presidential running mate at an event here at noon Friday, senior campaign sources confirmed to FOX News.

· Lord, we ask for Your forgiveness, grace, and mercy over all the candidates and running mates in this Presidential campaign. We pray for Your mercy over America in the upcoming election. We place each candidate and running mate in Your hands and ask that You fill them with Your Holy Spirit.

· Father, as our leaders seek ways to shore up the economic disaster, we pray for wisdom in their actions.

· Arise for our help, and redeem us for Your mercies' sake (Psalm 44:26)

4. FEMA Officials Prepare For Tropical Storm Gustav - The Wall Street Journal

"Federal Emergency Management Agency officials are ramping up preparations in case Tropical Storm Gustav builds as predicted into a major hurricane and hits the U.S. Gulf Coast. ,"We continue to monitor the storm and encourage individuals and families to review their preparedness plans," FEMA spokeswoman Elizabeth Childs said. In the event that Gustav becomes a hurricane, FEMA has 478 emergency generators, 141 truckloads of tarp and 267 truckloads of blankets and cots that are already stationed in Gulf Coast states, according to a statement. The agency will also have more than 2.4 million liters of water and more than four million meals. FEMA has conducted analysis to determine in advance where federal assistance is most likely needed. It has also prepared advanced plans for its response and recovery efforts and mapped out those plans with other state and federal agencies."

· Father, we ask Your mercy over the Gulf Coast. We are grieved by the arrogance and sin that still resides in that region, as well as the rest of our nation, and once again we repent and ask forgiveness on their behalf.

· The Lord has removed your punishment; He has turned back your enemy. The King of Israel, the Lord, is among you; you need no longer fear harm. (Zephaniah 3:15 HCSB)

5. Rice meets with Olmert about Russia-US friction Israeli-Palestinian deal has 'good chance of succeeding' - ICEJ News

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and US Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, met on Tuesday to discuss the escalating tensions between Russia and the West over the Georgian crisis and US missile shields in Poland. With an eye towards its impact on the Middle East, Olmert and Rice also addressed the peace talks with the Palestinians. Though now on his way out of office, Olmert assured through a spokesman that he is still committed to reaching the Annapolis goal of a peace deal by the end of the year. But Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, the leading candidate to replace him as head of Kadima, now opposes Washington's effort to draft a summary document that outlines the areas of agreement between the parties.

· Lord, we pray against the plan to divide the land of Israel, and ask that You prevent it from succeeding. We bow our knees in repentance for our government's role in it, and declare that Your will alone for Israel shall prevail.

· But Judah shall dwell forever, from generation to generation. (Joel 3:20)

The Group of Seven industrialized democracies condemned Russia on Wednesday for its actions in Georgia, underlining the country's growing estrangement from the West.

· Lord, we pray for a hedge of protection around Western nations as the new "cold war" deepens. We take authority over fear, bind it, and loose wisdom and peace in its place.

· And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. (Matthew 16:19)

The Middle East in Focus

The Middle East in Focus This week, for all the headlines cited below, please join us in proclaiming THIS DECREE: "May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble; may the name of the God of Jacob defend you." (Psalm 20:1)

1. First American Base Being Established in Israel - Ha'aretz

Significant strategic changes often occur surprisingly quietly, without drawing the deserved attention. A clear example of this is the agreement last month for the deployment of a U.S. radar system in the Negev, which will bolster Israel's defense against Iranian or Syrian surface-to-surface ballistic missiles.

2. Poll: 63% of Americans support Israeli strike in Iran - Ynet News

Some 63% of Americans supports a preemptive Israeli strike on Iranian nuclear facilities, should the international community's diplomatic efforts to curb its nuclear development fail, a recent poll held by the Israel Project revealed Thursday.

3. Israel: Assad not serious about peace - Jerusalem Post

Syria's rush to take advantage of the conflict in Georgia and the Russia-US rift to cozy up to Moscow seems to indicate that it is not interested in serious negotiations with Israel, even with US participation, diplomatic officials in Jerusalem said on Thursday.

The Daily Brief August 28, 2008

"Deliver me, O Lord, from my enemies; I take refuge in You." (Psalm 143:9 NKJV)

The Daily Brief

1. Condi Pulls A Solomon: Split Jerusalem In Two - WorldNetDaily

Diplomatic sources revealed the status of secret talks to create a Palestinian state later this year following the visit of U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, to Jerusalem and the Middle East Monday. According to top diplomatic sources involved in the talks, she has been pressing Israel to sign a document by the end of the year that would divide Jerusalem by offering the Palestinians a state in Israel's capital city as well as in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, also has been negotiating the division of Jerusalem - despite claims to the contrary - but would rather conclude an agreement on paper by the end of the year that would give the Palestinians a state in the West Bank, Gaza and some Israeli territory, leaving conclusions on Jerusalem for a later date.

The Palestinian team has been pushing to conclude a deal by January on all core issues, including Jerusalem, and has been petitioning the U.S. to pressure Israel into signing an agreement on paper that offers the Palestinians eastern Jerusalem. Rice, diplomatic sources said, has asked Israeli leaders to bend to what the U.S. refers to as a "compromise position," concluding an Israeli-Palestinian agreement by the end of the year that guarantees sections of Jerusalem to the Palestinians. But Israel would not be required to withdraw from Jerusalem for a period of one to five years. One Palestinian negotiator said that both sides have been meeting on a daily basis, usually at the highest levels, and that Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, and Chief Palestinian Negotiator Ahmed Queri, have been leading the talks. One U.S. plan for Jerusalem obtained by WorldNetDaily, was divided into timed phases, and called for Israel eventually to consider forfeiting parts of the Temple Mount, Judaism's holiest site.

Any Israeli-Palestinian paper agreement is to finalize a process that began at last November's U.S. backed Annapolis conference, which seeks to create a Palestinian state, at least on paper, before Bush leaves office.

· Dearest Lord Jehovah, we cannot believe what is happening secretly between Israel and Palestine, while the negotiators think that no one is looking. May these hidden talks be revealed and those involved be rebuked by You so that they will not seek to divide Israel or Jerusalem anymore. Please spare America and Israel from further calamities due to the disregard of their leadership to Your Word, that states those who come against Israel will be cursed. And may Israel, the "Apple of Your Eye," be restored to Her true boundaries and greatness that You promised to her through Moses and Joshua. In Your Name we pray, Jesus. Amen.

· "Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them--the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses. From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory." (Joshua 1: 2-4 NKJV)

2. Obama Acceptance Speech Amidst "Greek Temple" Designed To Invite Celebrity Status - Fox News

Barack Obama is poised to invite a new wave of Republican criticism that he is an inflated celebrity, when he accepts the Democratic nomination Thursday at a stadium decked out to resemble a rock concert venue. Invesco Field at Mile High, where Obama will accept the nomination Thursday, before a crowd of more than 70,000 people, is now completely covered by a circular seating arrangement and includes what appears to be a Parthenon-type structure behind the center platform.Obama's team says the event, which will require the apparatus of the Democratic National Convention to move from the Denver Pepsi Center, is meant to open the doors of the otherwise exclusive convention to the public. But the grandiose set-up will no doubt fuel criticism from John McCain's campaign that Obama is an inflated celebrity. Obama began receiving the 'celebrity' label after he delivered a speech to 200,000 onlookers in Berlin during his trip abroad to Europe and the Middle East."

As a visual it'll be tremendous," said Democratic strategist Bob Beckel. "But the problem is that the visual has been a little bit of a negative for him over the last few months." Obama aide Dan Pfeiffer said "it is not true" that the campaign had any doubts about the Invesco event. And Beckel said he's sure the Obama campaign thought through all the visuals. "If it did (have any doubts), those Greek columns would've been down," he said, adding he's not going to bet against Obama in a speech.

· Gracious Lord, may Sen. Obama, his campaign team and the Democratic Party realize before it is too late, that there is no other God, but You.

· "You shall have no other gods before Me." (Exodus 20: 3 NKJV)

3. TS Gustav Floods Haiti, Kills 11 as It Threatens to Become Hurricane, Slam Gulf Coast - Fox News

As Tropical Storm Gustav moves away from Haiti, the Louisiana and Texas coasts are preparing for a date with a possible Category 2 or 3 hurricane, as the storm could regain strength later in the day or on Thursday. The tentative forecast track pointed toward Louisiana, but forecasters said it might hit anywhere from south Texas to the Florida panhandle if it continues to develop. The threat of a hurricane slamming the Gulf Coast comes as the region nears the anniversary of hurricanes Katrina and Rita. In a news conference in Baton Rouge, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, said he could declare a state of emergency by Thursday and warned residents to be prepared. If the storm stays on its projected path, it could make landfall in Louisiana on the first day of the Republican Convention, that is being held in Minneapolis, MN.

· Dearest Father who created the wind and the waves. We humbly ask You to spare any more destruction and loss of life from soon-to-be Hurricane Gustav. As it crosses over warm waters, we ask that You will calm it's winds instead of strengthening them, and that it will churn out to sea, instead of staying on course to the Gulf Coast. Please calm all of those in this storm's path, and may they turn to You for their true salvation. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen.

· "But He said to them, 'Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?' Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm." (Matthew 8: 26 NKJV)

4. Police: Mexican Cartels Give OK To Hit U.S. Targets - Associated Press

Warring Mexican drug cartels have given their hit men permission to cross into the United States to kill their targets, according to warnings received by U.S. authorities. Police and federal agents told The Associated Press about the warnings Monday, and officials along the border are beefing up security.

El Paso spokesman Officer Chris Mears, says authorities learned of the threat last week. U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Border Patrol officers have also been told about the threat and have ramped up security at border crossings. Drug cartel violence has claimed thousands of lives across Mexico this year. Nearly 800 people have been killed this year in Ciudad Juarez, a hard-scrabbled city of about 1.3 million people across the Rio Grande from El Paso.

· Father of all peoples. You created man in Your image. It has to grieve You to see Mexicans killing Americans for drug money. Please stop this violence and carnage before it even happens. May the Mexican Drug Lords and U.S. Agents and Police, and the countries of American and Mexico be saved for Your Son's Glory and Honor. We pray these things in Your Name, Jesus. Amen.

· "If He passes by, imprisons, and gathers to judgment, then who can hinder Him? For He knows deceitful men; He sees wickedness also. Will He not then consider it?" (Job 11: 10-11 NKJV)

5. Russia Not Afraid Of Starting New Cold War, Receives Warning From The West - The Australian and Fox News

Russia has put the West on alert for a new Cold War that Moscow says it is ready to fight, with its President Dmitry Medvedev saying Tuesday, he recognized the independence of two breakaway republics South Ossetia and Abkhazia, from Georgia. "We are not afraid of anything, including the prospect of a Cold War," he said. But the move brought condemnation from the West, with US President George W. Bush pressing Moscow to "reconsider this irresponsible decision."

The seven nations, United States, Britain, France, Canada, Germany, Japan and Italy, that along with Russia make up the G-8; issued a statement that underlined Russia's growing estrangement from the West, and its decision to recognize South Ossetia and Abkhazia as independent countries that violated Georgia's territorial integrity. Two weeks ago, officials had told The Associated Press that the G-7 was weighing whether to effectively disband what is known as the G-8 by throwing Moscow out. Sources said Wednesday, Russia was eyeing the possibility of invading Poland next to slow down the building of a joint U.S. missile defense system.

The East-West dispute has pushed Russian share prices to the lowest level in almost two years, and the ruble has fallen. But Moscow appears confident the West needs Russia too much - for energy supplies, and co-operation on international issues - to risk a serious rift over Georgia. Mr. Medvedev, whose troops still occupy positions in Georgia, including in the vital Black Sea port of Poti, said he did not want a return to the Cold War, but "everything depends on the position of our partners."

· Commander of the Heavenly Host, we humbly ask You to bring peace to this region and to Russia. Poland doesn't need to be devastated again because of a potential war with Russia, and Georgia needs Your protection to rid itself of the Russian army that already has devastated it. May Messrs. Putin and Medvedev, be divinely influenced by Your Holy Spirit to yield to Your Way of doing things, which includes establishing and maintaining peaceful relationships with their neighbors. May many be saved due to these conflicts, and may You receive all of the Glory. In Your Son's Holy Name we pray. Amen.

· "He pours contempt on princes, and disarms the mighty. He makes nations great, and destroys them; He enlarges nations, and guides them." (Job 12: 21& 23 NKJV)

The Daily Brief August 27, 2008

SPECIAL EDITION

"Deliver me, O Lord, from my enemies; I take refuge in You." (Psalm 143:9 NKJV)

Catholic Officials to Pelosi: Stick to Politics!

On Sunday's "Meet the Press" House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was asked when she would counsel "life begins," to Barack Obama, who put that question "above [his] pay grade." Pelosi responded that, as an "ardent, practicing Catholic," the answer is unclear and that "the doctors of the church have not been able to make that definition."

The Catholic Church begs to differ. Archbishop Chaput of Denver said in response, "Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is a gifted public servant of strong convictions and many professional skills. Regrettably, knowledge of Catholic history and teaching does not seem to be one of them." He goes on to note, "Ardent, practicing Catholics will quickly learn from the historical record that from apostolic times, the Christian tradition overwhelmingly held that abortion was grievously evil." Cardinal Rigali of the Catholic Bishops Committee on Pro-Life Activities responded, "The Church's moral teaching never justified or permitted abortion at any stage of development." Archbishop Wuerl of Washington, D.C. quoted the Catholic Catechism, which states, "Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception .

Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion." I commend Cardinal Rigali, Archbishop Chaput, Archbishop Wuerl, and also Cardinal Egan of New York for their firm and clear reaffirmations of the dignity of human life. (Tony Perkins, Family Research Council)

Pro-Life Voices in Denver

Despite the strong pro-abortion positions of the Democratic platform and the party's imminent nominee, Sen. Barack Obama, pro-life voices are anything but silent in Denver during this week's Democratic convention. Last night, FRC Action's own Peter Sprigg joined several thousand people in Denver's Martin Luther King Park for a pro-life rally, followed by a peaceful prayer march around a new Planned Parenthood abortion facility that targets minorities. Featured speakers included Dr. Alveda King, niece of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who declared that life is "the civil rights issue of our day." Also featured was the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Denver, Charles Chaput, author of a just-published book on the relationship between religion and politics titled Render unto Caesar.

Young people in the crowd -- those born after the 1973 Supreme Court decision -- wore t-shirts declaring, "I Survived Roe v. Wade."

At the Democrats' official interfaith prayer gathering on Sunday, the crowd reportedly went silent when the keynote speaker, Bishop Charles E. Blake of the Church of God in Christ, expressed the "moral and spiritual pain so many of us feel because of this disregard for the lives of the unborn." Sen. Robert Casey (D-Penn.), who speaks at the convention tonight, calls himself pro-life - we hope that his message tonight will be strongly and comprehensively pro-life one. Prayer Points for the Conventions

Intercessory Prayer Initiative PRAYER ALERT - 8/26/08

Prayer Points for the Conventions
Dear Prayer Warriors:The Democratic National Convention is in full swing this week (Aug. 24-28) in Denver, CO. According to Fox News, the Democrats are determined to brandish their wide array of faith at the convention. They spent several months reaching out to the faith community, and have strategically courted the evangelical vote, particularly the young evangelicals, in an effort to gain their support and guarantee the White House.

Prayer Points for the Democratic Convention -- Pray that the Democratic platform would clearly state what they stand for and what they want to achieve if they win the White House. -- Pray that the delegates and the entire nation will witness what is actually the truth concerning their platform and their candidates. -- Pray for an unexpected turn of events this week that would reveal any hidden agendas concerning our freedoms, national security and right to life. -- Pray that people will see past the charm to the real issues at stake.

While the DNC is seeking to gain momentum toward a November victory this week, the Republican Platform Committee is meeting to develop the core beliefs and key positions on which McCain and his running mate will run. This platform will be presented at the National Convention, Sept. 1-4, 2008 and will be the basis for future campaigning and bid for the White House.

Prayer Points for the Republican Convention: -- Pray that the lines of demarcation between both parties would be clear and distinct so that people will be able to discern which direction is best for the nation. -- Pray that the Lord will direct Senator McCain toward the vice-presidential candidate of God's choosing and that he/she would embody strong leadership skills, character and integrity. -- Pray that the Lord will direct the drafting of the Republican platform to express the best agenda to get the country back on a righteous track in all areas. Faith Forum Peddles Leftist Propaganda

by Tom Minnery
Senior vice president

Focus Action
In the end, the Democrats weren't even trying. Their well-hyped outreach to religious conservatives dribbled away in a thin soup of solutions that have long failed to solve social problems. The title of Tuesdayís Faith Forum at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Denver asked the question: "How can progressives and conservatives find common ground?" The answer: Apparently nowhere.Moderator Jim Wallis of Sojourners cautioned his audience that God is neither Republican nor Democrat, but from that point on you'd have thought God had endorsed the entire social agenda of the political Left.

When the topic turned to the pesky issue of abortion, former U.S. Rep. Tim Roemer praised Sen. Barack Obama's desire to see abortions reduced 95 percent in 10 years, adding the caveat "fully within the law" -- meaning, apparently, "keep your hands off Roe v. Wade." Wallis barely mentioned abortion, but sliced the Republicans when he did, saying they lacked a "consistent ethic" of life -- again, meaning "don't talk to us about abortion until you oppose the death penalty."

This cheap shot, of course, erases the distinction between the innocent and the guilty, and therein lies the larger point in the abortion debate, a point totally ignored by these panelists. There can be only one reason Obama wants to see 95 percent fewer abortions -- it is the unjustified taking of innocent life. And for that reason alone, it should not just be reduced, but eliminated. This is the huge gap in logic that pro-abortionists refuse to address.

Tuesday's dip by the DNC into the liberal realms of religion is a strange and barren landscape for religious conservatives. There is nothing of sin, redemption, salvation, and very little of personal responsibility and self-discipline. Based on the presentations by the nine panelists at this two-hour forum, there is, in this world, mostly government-given rights and government grants. The Dems' 'soft' jihadist

By Frank J. Gaffney, Jr.
Jewish World Review
August 26, 2008

On Sunday, Democratic delegates convening in Denver were prayed over by representatives of various faiths. One stood out: Ingrid Mattson, president of the Islamic Society of North America. With this choice, Barak Obama's campaign has committed a strategic error of the first order. After all, the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) has been identified by the Department of Justice not only as a front for the Muslim Brotherhood - a global Islamist movement with the stated mission in America of "destroying Western civilization from within." Worse yet, it has also been named as an unindicted co- conspirator in the United States' largest alleged terrorism financing conspiracy. . .
Insofar as the Muslim Brotherhood explicitly seeks and is working for the destruction of our government and Western civilization more generally, it is engaged in a criminal conspiracy that constitutes treasonous sedition. That reality has two critical implications: First, the Brotherhood must be formally designated a terrorist organization, putting an end to the reckless notion - promoted by, among others, the U.S. State Department - that practitioners of soft jihad are less dangerous and an effective antidote to co-religionists who are prepared to use violence immediately, rather than later on.

Second, under 18 US Code 2382: " Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States and having knowledge of the commission of any treason against them, conceals and does not, as soon as may be, disclose and make known the same to [appropriate officials] is guilty of misprision of treason and shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than seven years, or both." Senator Obama, his party, Bush administration officials and, for that matter, ordinary citizens of the United States are obliged to take steps to counteract seditious Muslim Brotherhood activities in our midst. To do otherwise is not just suicidal. It is a crime.

Obama: Hidden Things Revealed

Obama Defensive about his Relationship with Unrepentant Terrorist Bill Ayers

The presidential campaign of Democrat B. Hussein Obama is trying to oppress free speech by using threats and bully tactics to cause television networks to stop running an ad that correctly and truthfully ties Obama to the 1960's Marxist Weathermen terrorist Bill Ayers. Ayers, who from the living room of his own house helped launch Obama's political career, was the ring leader of the terrorist group responsible for some 30 bombings across the country from 1969 to 1973, including the US Capitol and the Pentagon. Ayers remains to this day unrepentant for the acts of terror. He told the New York Times on September 11, 2001, "I don't regret setting bombs. I feel we didn't do enough."

Truth is that the ad linking Obama with Ayers is factual. It even left out the part that Obama was the first chairman of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a school reform group that the Marxist Ayers founded. So Obama's relationship with Ayers is far deeper than Obama will admit. 1 Corinthians 15:33 says, "Be not deceived: Evil companionship corrupts moral habits." Obama's association with Ayers and other Marxists is a reflection of how Obama views the nation he would lead. Those he associates with seek to destroy the country and its values. Given the way Obama apologizes for America, his Marxist buddies must have had an impact on his way of thinking.

The Daily Brief August 26, 2008

"Deliver me, O Lord, from my enemies; I take refuge in You." (Psalm 143:9 NKJV)

The Daily Brief

1. Rice Returns for Peace Push; Palestinians Released - Bloomberg

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice returned to Israel Monday to press the goal of reaching the guidelines for a Middle East peace agreement this year, as Israel freed Palestinian prisoners in a goodwill gesture. Rice is scheduled during her two-day visit to meet with senior Israeli and Palestinian officials to discuss "progress toward the shared goal of a peace agreement in 2008," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said on Aug. 22. Rice and President George W. Bush had banked on reaching an accord this year after a U.S. diplomatic push toward a Palestinian state began at a summit in Annapolis, Maryland, last November."

· Lord, we pray that these negotiations will not include dividing Israel. We pray that You will direct the talks as to what Your will is for this situation. Let Your will be done and not man's will be done! And Your wisdom be upon the leaders.

· For the Lord has driven out from before you great and strong nations; but as for you, no one has been able to stand against you to this day. (Joshua 23:9)

2. U.S. Navy Warship Arrives With Humanitarian Aid In Georgia - AP

A U.S. Navy warship carrying humanitarian aid for Georgia has anchored in the southern Georgian port of Batumi. The arrival of the guided-missile destroyer USS McFaul on Sunday is a strong signal of support for an embattled ally. On Friday, Russia said it had pulled back forces from Georgia in accordance with a EU-brokered cease-fire agreement. "There are very specific requirements for Russian withdrawal. Putting up permanent facilities and checkpoints are inconsistent with the agreement. We are in contact with the various parties to obtain clarification," White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe said.

· Heavenly Father, tame this brashness that the leaders of Russia are displaying. Through super-natural means let them know that they are coming against You when they persecute the people of Georgia and the smaller nations.

· "I will send My fear before you, I will cause confusion among all the people to whom you come, and will make all your enemies turn their backs to you. And I will send hornets before you, which shall drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite from before you." (Exodus 23:27, 28)

3. Gay Marriage Foes Mobilize for Ban in California - NewsMax

Michael Bumgarner says he's never campaigned for a political cause before, but his strong opposition to same-sex marriage has prompted him to join thousands of volunteers going door-to-door in support of a ballot initiative that would ban gay nuptials here.

· Lord, we pray that Christians will rise up out of their slumber and begin to take back what the devil has stolen through homosexuality - our families, future, and blessings. Let Christians not be lukewarm or slothful about getting involved in politics for the sake of our children, their children and our nation. Let them persevere.

· The curse of the Lord is on the house of the wicked, but He blesses the home of the just. (Proverbs 3:33) So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. (Revelation 3:16)

4. Fed Chief: Financial Crisis, Inflation Taking Toll on Economy - Fox

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said Friday the financial crisis that has pounded the country -- coupled with higher inflation -- is taking a toll on the economy and poses a major challenge to Fed policymakers as they try to restore stability. "Although we have seen some improved functioning in some markets, the financial storm that reached gale force" around this time last year "has not yet subsided, and its effects on the broader economy are becoming apparent in the form of softening economic activity and rising unemployment," Bernanke said in a speech to a high-profile economics conference here.

· Lord, we repent we have robbed You over and over again in not sowing our tithes and offerings. Our nation is beginning to show the consequences of not obeying You in this command of Yours. Let us be faithful and quick to obey You.

· "Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, 'In what way have we robbed You?' In tithes and offerings." (Malachi 3:8) "Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?" (Luke 16:11)

5. U.S. Deaths Reach 101 for the Year in Afghanistan - AP

Taliban Turns Into Lethal Fighting Force. Taliban insurgents once derided as a ragtag rabble unable to match U.S. troops have transformed into a fighting force - one advanced enough to mount massive conventional attacks and claim American lives at a record pace. Rep. Chris Shays, a Republican member of the House Homeland Security committee, said it appears the United States is making some of the same mistakes in Afghanistan that it did in Iraq, such as underfunding the training of the Afghan army. He also called for an increase in the use of "soft power" like aid work and "some sort of effort in reconciliation."

· Lord, we know that You gave us Gen. Petraeus to help us get control over the violence in Iraq; we pray that You will give us more leaders who also will have Your wisdom as to how to defeat these Taliban rebels once and for all.

· No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you. (Joshua 1:5)

6. Iraq PM: All U.S. Troops to Exit by 2011- AP

Iraqi Prime Minister Prime Nuri al-Maliki said on Monday that an agreement had been reached in negotiations on a security pact with the United States to end any foreign military presence in Iraq by the end of 2011. The Iraqi government has said it is proposing U.S. troops end patrols of Iraqi towns and villages by the middle of next year and U.S. combat troops leave Iraq by 2011.

· Heavenly Father, the nation of Iraq is so strategically located among the nations of that region. We pray that You will give the U.S. leadership favor with Iraq's leaders and give them wisdom as to what should be allowed in these negotiations. Let nothing be put forth that would jeopardize our security and interests in that region.

· Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. (1 John 3:7) Let those be put to shame and brought to dishonor who seek after my life; let those be turned back and brought to confusion who plot my hurt. (Psalms 35:4)

7. Democrats open faith-filled convention with prayer - AP

There will be four "faith caucus" meetings, blessings to open and close each night, and panels and parties run by Democratic-leaning religious advocacy groups that didn't even exist in 2004 - not to mention protests from religious groups and leaders opposed to the Democratic platform. "Now there's a genuine interest in speaking with groups and religious groups who were previously considered enemies," said Rachel Laser, who works on culture issues for the centrist Democratic think tank Third Way. "There still is a possibility that Obama will chip into the Republican advantage with this religious outreach," Hertzke said.

· Lord, we pray that people will not be deceived by groups wanting to use faith as a leverage to win elections. Let a genuine desire for the things of God come from pure intentions. Man sees the outer view, but God sees the heart.

· These six things the Lord hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil . . . (Proverbs 6:16, 17)

8. Flight Delay Nightmare - AP

A failure in a Federal Aviation Administration computer system that processes flight plans delayed hundreds of flights nationwide Tuesday, though the FAA expected to have the problem fixed by the evening. "Our estimate is a return to normal ops in an hour in Atlanta," Hank Krakowski, chief operations officer for the FAA, told reporters Tuesday afternoon. "The airlines have been working quite well with us. It looks like we're slowly starting to dig out of this."

· This is a "real-time" problem as we post tonight's edition of the Daily Brief. We ask prayers for wisdom for those in authority at the FAA and all airline personnel; and strength for each one as they work to sort out this mayhem and have order restored. Pray!

· "For the eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous, and his ears attend to their prayer." (I Peter 3:12)

And now . . . Hallmark!

Care Enough to Send the Very Worst

Hallmark, a privately owned company and the biggest name in greeting cards, is releasing same-sex marriage cards. This latest marketing venture comes despite the fact that homosexual "marriage" has only been imposed by the courts in two states. The cards include two tuxedos on the front or two hearts intertwined.

The company made the controversial decision to begin releasing the cards, despite the fact that a vast majority of Americans support traditional marriage as between one man and one woman. We can only wonder whether the company, which also owns the Hallmark Channel that defines itself as "the quintessential 24-hour television destination for family- friendly programming and a leader in the production of original movies," will try to push this new view of "family values" through its television broadcasting.

We shouldn't be totally surprised by this latest move. Last year, Hallmark started offering "coming out" cards for homosexuals to announce their sexual orientation to their family and friends. Placing profits over character should never be a good business decision. This is far from being "the Very Best" and I suggest you contact Hallmark and let them know that when it comes to greeting cards you are considering the rest. (Family Research Council)

Exit Petraeus, Without Fanfare

General David Petraeus's tenure in Iraq draws to a close at the end of the month, and it's a measure of his success that he is departing to far less political fanfare than when his tour began. In September 2007, MoveOn.org called him General "Betray-Us," and Hillary Clinton said his claims of progress weren't credible. Now those critics are silent.

When General Petraeus took command 18 months ago, Iraq was sliding into chaos, and President Bush's "surge" was the last chance to bring the country under control. Last April, Majority Leader Harry Reid confidently declared, "The war is lost," and it would have been, if Mr. Bush had taken Mr. Reid's advice. Instead, he stuck with General Petraeus's counterinsurgency strategy, and now violence of every measure has been tamped down; Sunni-Shiite political reconciliation is underway; the Iraqi Army is growing in expertise; and the U.S. and Nouri al- Maliki's government are finishing negotiations toward a long-term security agreement.

However impressive, such gains remain fragile, as General Petraeus is noting in exit interviews this week. "It's not durable yet. It's not self-sustaining. You know -- touch wood -- there is still a lot of work to be done," he told Dexter Filkins of the New York Times.

American military engagement is crucial in the months and years ahead, and will fall now to the capable hands of Lieutenant General Ray Odierno, General Petraeus's chief deputy and co-prosecutor of the anti-al Qaeda success of the last 18 months. General Petraeus will leave Iraq to take control of Central Command, which includes Iraq and the wider Middle East theater including Afghanistan and Iran. With the resurgence of the Taliban, Americans are fortunate the General has signed up for more hard duty.

Obama Citizenship Challenged in Federal Court

Democratic Lawyer Challenges Obama Citizenship In Federal Court

The Democratic National Convention will attempt to portray a Democratic Party unified for its candidate B. Hussein Obama, the right man for the right time for the right kind of America. But just hours before the convention, a hardly-reported snag has appeared in the courts that may turn the convention and Obama's candidacy upside-down. It has been reported on the Internet, complete with court documents, that a well known Democratic lawyer from Philadelphia has filed for a Temporary Restraining Order to prevent Obama from running for President, to prevent the Democratic Party from nominating him and to prevent Obama's name from appearing on the ballot as a Presidential candidate.

Phillip Berg, a Democratic activist, has filed the injunction in Federal District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Berg makes the case in his filing that Obama is not a citizen of the United States and is therefore not eligible to become President. Berg claims documentation that Obama was born in Kenya rather than Hawaii. He has shown a birth certificate from Kenya with Obama's name, his father's name and his mother's name on it. And he says that Hawaii public records show only a "registry of birth" for Obama--not that he was born there. Berg says that Obama is a citizen of Kenya and has never renounced his citizenship there.

Further, Berg cites the section of the Immigration and Nationality Act of June 27, 1952 that required Obama's mother to have resided in the United States for five years after she turned 14 in order for her son to be a natural born citizen if he were born in another country. Obama's mother was only 18 when he was born. Berg says that the only way for Obama to become a citizen was to be naturalized. According to the Constitution, a naturalized citizen is not eligible to become President. Berg further alleges that when Obama's mother married his stepfather, she became a naturalized Indonesian citizen. According to US law, a minor child would lose his US citizenship when that child's parent was naturalized as a citizen in another country.

Berg cites that when Obama was 20 years old, he traveled to Pakistan using his Indonesian passport. Since Indonesia does not allow dual citizenship, Berg says Obama had to have been an Indonesian citizen at the time of his travel. There are many more specifics in the court document cited by Berg. It is unlikely, however, that a Philadelphia judge--an area that Obama carried in the primary by a significant margin--would act on such an injunction. America will see whether the scales of justice are truly blind. Jesus said in John 8:32, "You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free." In this case, if America does not know the truth, it may well lose its freedom.

The Daily Brief Friday, August 22, 2008

"But I will sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble." (Psalm 59:16)

The Daily Brief

1. Bush Calls Georgia "Under Siege" - The New York Times

President Bush declared Wednesday that "Georgia's young democracy" has "come under siege" by Russia, and he connected the conflict in the Caucuses with the battle against terrorists and United States efforts to aid the rise of free societies. "The United States of America will continue to support Georgia's democracy," Mr. Bush told about 4,000 people here attending the national convention of Veterans of Foreign Wars and its Ladies Auxiliary. All these events over the past seven years, Mr. Bush said, have been part of "the great ideological struggle of our time, between forces of freedom and forces of tyranny." And, noting that Georgia had since sent troops to Afghanistan and Iraq "to help others realize the blessings of liberty," Mr. Bush said others must now come to Georgia's aid. "Georgia has stood for freedom around the world, and now the world must stand for freedom in Georgia," he said.

· Thank You, Lord for our nation that promotes freedom. We pray for Georgia to be victorious in their own fight for freedom. We ask for wisdom in the decisions being made to stand with Georgia. Our trust is in You, Lord, to save their country from her enemies.

· "Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me: thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and thy right hand shall save me." (Ps.138:7)

2. Secretary Rice Signs Polish Missile Defense System - The Washington Post

At a signing ceremony with the Polish political leadership, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said the system, which will place 10 missile interceptors and more than 100 U.S. troops here, will "help us to respond to the threats of the 21st century." The agreement, suddenly concluded after 18 months of negotiations, came at a time of heightened tensions between Russia and the NATO alliance over the war in Georgia. NATO on Tuesday said it will suspend "business as usual" with Russia after its invasion of its southern neighbor. John Rood, undersecretary of state for arms control and nonproliferation, negotiated the Polish deal, and said there was no direct correlation between the timing of the missile defense agreement and the situation in Georgia.

· Lord, we continue to thank you for this system of protection that will be placed in Poland. We ask Your hand of blessing in every phase of the missile defense system. As nations rise against other nations we desire for America to stand for the way of freedom that opens the harvest for the Kingdom of God. It is truly for freedom that You came.

· "That He would grant unto us that we, being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear in hoiliness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life." (Luke 1:74-75 )

3. Bush Positive on U.S., Iraq Deal for U.S. Troop Withdrawal by 2012 - AP

President George W. Bush and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki spoke by phone Friday as the United States and Iraq reportedly agreed on the framework of deal to withdraw American combat troops by June 2009, with a broader pullout set for the end of 2011. White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe said Friday that Bush and the Iraqi "had a good conversation." But he added "there are a lot of details that have to be worked out."

· Thank you, Lord for bringing us to this position and for accomplishing major goals in Iraq. Give strength to Iraq as they are preparing to take full control of their country. May they rebuild on the firm foundation of Your word. Position leaders over Iraq that have a heart for You. May the true Helper lead and guide Iraq.

· "And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of Truth; who the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you." (John 14:16-17)

4. Hope Glimmers Through Petraeus' Fatigue - The New York Times

. . . Yet for all the signs of fatigue, Petraeus is preparing to leave Iraq a remarkably safer place than it was when he arrived. The surge, clearly, has worked, at least for now: Violence, measured in the number of attacks against Americans and Iraqis each week, has dropped by 80 percent in the country since early 2007, according to figures the general provided.

· We give You praise and thanksgiving for this report. Continue to bless and lead us to full victory over the terrorists inside Iraq. Bless General Patraeus with wisdom, rest and satisfaction of a job well done. Bless our troops who have worked so hard and sacrificed greatly.

· "And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea the work of our hands establish thou it." (Ps. 90:17)

5. Terror Propaganda Takes Hit In Iraq - USA Today

Military successes in Iraq have nearly crippled al- Qaeda's ability to produce battlefield propaganda, hampering for now its ability to recruit fighters and raise money, the U.S. military and analysts say. Air Force Col. Scott Maw, a U.S. military spokesman in Iraq, described al-Qaeda's propaganda operations in Iraq as "severely degraded." Last month, operations directed against propaganda cells in Iraq resulted in the killing or capture of 11 cell members and the seizure of more than 800 gigabytes of data, Maw said. The decline in violence and reduction in publicity material have also moderated the way Iraq is covered on Arab news stations, such as Al-Jazeera, which had been criticized by the Bush administration for its coverage early in the war.

· Praise Your Name, Lord, for another good report. We pray for truth to prevail in Arab news sources. As fear tactics are decreased, we pray for the gospel to flow through Iraq. Bring salvation to the nation as true freedom is lifted high.

· "Teach me thy way, O Lord; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name. I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name for evermore." (Ps.86:11-12)

6. Bush Offers Job Protection to Doctors Against Abortions - Fox News

The Bush administration Thursday proposed stronger job protections for U.S. doctors and other health care workers who refuse to participate in abortions because of religious or moral objections. Health and Human Services Secretary Michael Leavitt said that health care professionals should not face retaliation from employers or from medical societies because they object to abortion. "Freedom of conscience is not to be surrendered upon issuance of a medical degree," said Leavitt. "This nation was built on a foundation of free speech. The first principle of free speech is protected conscience."

· Praise GOD for this wonderful report!! Perhaps He has heard the cries of His people during The CALLDC last weekend -- that we will be a nation that chooses LIFE. Pray that these new policies will go forth unhindered, and that the medical practitioners who choose LIFE will be honored to do so!

· This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live 20 and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. (Deut. 30:19,20)

7. McCain offices evacuated over suspicious letters - Washington Times

Two of Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign offices were evacuated Thursday after receiving suspicious letters, one of which contained an unidentified white powder. A government official said a letter sent to the office of the presumptive Republican presidential nominee near Denver contained powder, but was being treated as a hoax and was thought to have been sent by an inmate at a nearby jail in Arapahoe County. A letter sent to the office in New Hampshire did not contain powder, but aroused suspicions of staffers who were jittery after the Denver- area office received its letter. Despite the likelihood of a hoax, staffers at all the Arizona Republican's campaign offices nationwide were told not to open letters. "Let's be cautious and not open mail tomorrow unless we clearly know the source," according to a campaign e-mail that was sent to staff members and obtained by The Washington Times. "Let's see what comes of this."

· Hoax or not, offer praise that nothing came of these incidents, and continue to lift up a prayer for the protection of all of our candidates for office this fall. Our governmental system has no place for terror; but is instead based upon the rights of our citizens to freely choose our elected officials.

· "Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord." (Psalm 150:6)

8. Obama Sued in Philadelphia Federal Court - America's Right.com

Lawsuit States He is Constitutionally Ineligible for the Presidency A prominent Philadelphia attorney and Hillary Clinton supporter filed suit this afternoon in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Illinois Sen. Barack Obama and the Democratic National Committee. The action seeks an injunction preventing the senator from continuing his candidacy and a court order enjoining the DNC from nominating him next week, all on grounds that Sen. Obama is constitutionally ineligible to run for and hold the office of President of the United States. (Read
more)

· We have seen this case building for some time, and this is not the first time we have offered prayers over this contentious issue. Now that the Democratic National Convention is about to convene, pray again for TRUTH to be revealed -- one way or another -- about the FACTS of the citizenship of Senator Barack Hussein Obama. THIS IS ONE NATION UNDER GOD AND UNDER LAW.

· "The effectual, fervent prayers of a righteous man availeth much." (James 5:16)

In response to the recent agreement signed by Poland allowing the deployment of US missile defense shield systems on its soil, Russia is considering arming its Baltic fleet with nuclear warheads, for the first time since the cold war. A report in the London bases Sunday Times revealed that the new Russian threat is in response to the Polish and US agreement and comes during the violent conflict in the Caucasus where Russia's military continues to maintain the upper hand. According to the report, the Russian nuclear warheads could be supplied to submarines, cruisers, and fighter bombers of the Baltic fleet based in Kaliningrad, a Russian enclave between Poland and Lithuania.

· Pray that the revival of Russia's superpower ambitions will be acknowledged and contained by world leaders.

· "He delivered me from my strong enemy, from those who hated me, for they were too strong for me." (Psalm 18:17)

Georgian Olim: We're Home

The war in Georgia may be waning, but those who fled its horrors are still living with its aftermath. And dozens of them have found new homes in Israel. A total of 75 new immigrants arrived in Israel in the 2nd week of August from Georgia, with most of them settling in the cities of Bat Yam and Ashdod. The Immigrant Absorption Ministry has already approved an assistance package for the newcomers that will include Hebrew schooling, employment offers, and subsidized rent. Underprivileged immigrants will also receive a grant of several thousand shekels. According to the Jewish Agency, some 120 additional Georgians are preparing to immigrate to Israel within the coming months.

Memisashvili family abandoned its home in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi and arrived in Israel last week. Vaj'a and his wife, both in their thirties, and their two children, aged 3 and 8, have taken up temporary residence in Kibbutz Messila in northern Israel, as part of a collaborative program between the Jewish Agency and the Kibbutz Movement. "I feel like I've come home," said a proud Vaj'a, who has already managed to squeeze in a visit to Jerusalem. "Here, I am not afraid of a war starting. As an Israeli citizen I will do whatever is necessary to defend the homeland. I feel like we've come home, and I know everything will work out for the best." The kibbutz, he says, has welcomed his family with open arms. "I have a lot of family in Israel, and I heard stories of when they first immigrated, I was surprised by the way people responded to us. They come over, they visit, they bring us clothes and things for our home, and we were even invited over for Shabbat dinner. It warms the heart." (By Yael Branovsky, Ynetnews.com, August 18, 2008)

· Praise God for the way He uses difficult circumstances to fulfill His promise of the people returning to the Land.

· "Behold, I will gather them out of all countries where I have driven them in My anger, in My fury, and in great wrath; I will bring them back to this place, and I will cause them to dwell safely. They shall be My people, and I will be their God." (Jeremiah 32:37- 38)

NORTH AMERICAN PRAYER SUMMIT:AUGUST 26-28

Next week, the North American Prayer Summit will be held in Colorado Springs, Colorado, August 26-28. Canadian, Mexican and U.S. prayer leaders will be joined by others with a strong burden to pray for our region. They will be coming from England, India and the islands of the South Pacific at their own expense to intercede with us during this critical time, especially for the USA in our national election. Would you please join us in prayer for His anointing, guidance, unity and clarity as we meet together? Pray that as a diverse international group, we will be able to get on the Lord's wave length, hearing clearly what He is saying and responding appropriately.

Immediately after the North American summit, August 29-30, the Mexican leaders will come down to New Mexico to visit our native American tribal groups (pueblos) to ask forgiveness for the sins of their ancestors (Spaniards and Mexicans) who were guilty of awful exploitation and even atrocities in their conquest of this land over 400 years ago. The wounds of history persist, manifesting in alcoholism and depression, suspicion of outsiders and resistance to the Gospel. Please pray with us for open doors and hearts and for true reconciliation and healing that will bring Christ's liberation to the pueblo peoples.

Thanks so much for your keeping these concerns in your hearts over the coming week.Warm greetings,

John Robb

6. Calif. Court Says Homosexual Rights Trump Religious Freedom - OneNewsNow.com

The same California Supreme Court that created a "right" to homosexual "marriage" earlier this year has now ruled that the state may force healthcare professionals to provide services that support an immoral and physically dangerous lifestyle. California's highest court was unanimous in its decision on Monday that Christian doctors may not refuse to perform artificial insemination for homosexual patients.

· Father, once again we stand in the gap over California's courts who fail to acknowledge You as Lord, and have rejected religious freedom in favor of sin. We pray that Your judgment will be filled with mercy for the many people who belong to You in that state. We thank You for the Holy Spirit Who was sent to change the hearts of people, and we ask that You make a way to turn these people of hardened hearts from their sins.

· "And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment." (John 16:8)

The Challenge of Pakistan's Nukes

Pakistan Nukes Present Major Problems For America and Israel

Pakistan's nuclear weapons could fall into the hands of terrorist groups al Qaeda and the Taliban with the exile to Saudi Arabia of deposed Pakistani president and American anti-terrorist ally Pervez Musharraf. Experts, however, say this is unlikely because a ten- member committee makes the decisions regarding the nuclear weapons, which are protected by the military and closely screened security agents. What the experts are not considering is that the committee is comprised of Sharia-law Muslims who see the United States as an enemy and that is why Musharraf has been forced out of office in the first place.

At a crisis meeting of the Pakistan government's ruling coalition on July 25th, one of the members who has close ties with al Qaeda said that Pakistan was in danger of losing control of the North West Frontier Province to, what he called, "militants." The province in question happens to be where al Qaeda and the Taliban have their strongholds and the reported area where Pakistan's nuclear arsenal is housed. The Australian newspaper reported that coalition member and al Qaeda sympathizer Maulana Fazlur Rehman's comments were backed by another coalition member whose party rules over the province.

Problem is, Musharraf was apparently the last stronghold against working with the Taliban and al Qaeda to solve political problems in Pakistan. The new coalition government's approach is to work with and include the terrorist groups in decision making about the issues facing the country. Prior to Musharraf's demise, intelligence reports indicated that al Qaeda and the Taliban had infiltrated much of Musharraf's military and were laying in wait to seize nuclear targets, including submarines capable of launching nuclear weapons. . .

At the announcement of Musharraf's resignation, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice . . . said, "The United States supported the transition to democratic government in Pakistan and respects the results of the election. The United States will help with these efforts to see Pakistan reach its goal of becoming a stable, prosperous, democratic, modern, Muslim nation." There are reports that American money given to Pakistan has filtered down to training Taliban terrorists. 2 Corinthians 6:14 says, "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship has righteousness with unrighteousness?" Heavenly Father, we have a problem.
